What does the Bible Say? What does the Bible say about faith? Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. But where can we find it? Where can we find faith?
We get faith from God, and God alone. We can’t earn it, it’s a gift; but we have to go and get it. So where do we find it? Romans 10:17 gives the answer. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). In other words, the closer we get to God, the stronger our faith gets. Now, just a little faith goes a long way. Jesus said such in Luke 17:6, (He said)“….If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.” However, He wants us to develop and grow our faith stronger. And now, here’s another question: What is good about faith? Number one, with faith one can become a child of God. In fact, it’s the only way. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Then, with faith one can see prayers answered. Jesus said in Mark 11:22-24, “….Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” And thirdly, with faith we can walk in the dark. That is, into the darkness of unknown. Abraham demonstrated such faith. We see this in Genesis 12:1, where it says “Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee;” and in verse 4a, “So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him….” The old patriarch was asked by God to leave all he had, and step out into the darkness of unknown. He did, and that was an act of faith. Then finally, I ask why is it so important that we have faith? The answer: We cannot please God without it. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him….” Jesus Christ, the Son of God, demonstrated the greatest act of faith when He obeyed His Father, and died on the cross for us. He trusted the Father would fulfill His mission through the sacrifice, and resurrect Him from the dead. Jesus acted in faith, and the Father was pleased. Faith honors God, and God honors faith!
